Wheaton, MA- Junior Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) exploded
for seven goals and handed out three assists to help lead
the Brown men's water polo team to a 14-12 victory over MIT
this afternoon at Wheaton College.
After the Engineers jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first eight
minutes of play, the Bears clawed their way back with a 6-1 second
quarter outburst to gain an 8-5 advantage heading into
halftime.
Both squads tallied three goals in the third quarter and the
Engineers outscored Bruno 4-3 in the fourth, but the Bears were
able to secure the win to close out their regular season. Senior
Kent Holland (Orinda, CA) played outstanding in the cage posting 14
saves in Brown's senior night win.
“It was nice for the two seniors (Kent Holland and Zach Levko) to go out with a win on Senior Day,” said Head Coach
Felix Mercado. “Now we must get back to work to finish the
season strong at the Northern Division and Eastern
Championships.”
Also helping the offense was freshmen Svetozar Stefanovic
(Belgrade, Serbia) and Ryan Gladych (Corona Del Mar,
CA) with two goals apiece, while junior Brandon Yoshimura (Haverford, PA), Levko, and junior Corey Schwartz (Los
Angeles, CA) added one.
The Bears will now prepare for the Northern Division Championships
at Harvard this weekend. First-seeded Brown will face the winner of
the Harvard/MIT game at 4:30 p.m. in the semi-finals on Saturday,
Nov. 7.
