10/3/2009 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Senior midfielder Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA) scored the
game-winning goal just four minutes into overtime to give the No.
23 Brown men's soccer team (5-0-4, 1-0 Ivy) its first Ivy
League win of the 2009 season at Columbia Soccer Stadium Saturday
evening.
Senior T.J. Thompson (Atkinson, NH) put the Bears on the scoreboard
first after taking a cross from junior Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) just
three minutes before halftime. Thompson knocked one past Columbia
goalkeeper Alexander Aurrichio from five yards out.
Columbia's Bayo Adafin came up with a big goal when he fought
through two Brown defenders and got a left-foot shot off that went
far post and in, past a diving Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) to tie
the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute of play.
The Bears had plenty of scoring opportunities tonight, as they
squad outshot the Lions 14-8 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner
kicks for the match. Aurrichio and Grandstrand both tallied one
save in tonight's contest, as the Bears continue to be
unbeaten.
The Bears will now host Princeton at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.
10.
