
Farnham's 309 All-Purpose Yards Sparks Brown Over Princeton, 34-17

Providence, Rhode Island – Senior All-American wide
receiver Buddy Farnham accumulated 309 all-purpose yards and scored
touchdowns on an 80 yard pass reception and a 92 yard kickoff
return, to lead Brown to its third straight win, a 34-17 victory
over Princeton before a Parent's Day crowd of 8,017 at Brown
Stadium.
The victory lifts the Bears to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy
League. Princeton fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Farnham caught 10 passes for 199 yards and an 80-yard touchdown,
ran back a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and returned a punt 18
yards, for an incredible 309 all-purpose yards, which rank seventh
all-time in Ivy League football history. The 80-yard pass play was
the fifth longest in Brown football history, while the 92 yard
kickoff return ranks 11th in the Brown record book.
The Bears also had great offensive performances from junior
quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero and junior runningback Zack
Tronti. Newhall-Caballero passed for 309 yards and two touchdowns,
completing 23 of 36 passes, while Tronti rushed for a game high 126
yards and a touchdown.
Tronti took over in the fourth quarter running for 52 of his 126
yards. He helped the Bears to an incredible 19-play, 74-yard
scoring drive that consumed 11:08 of the fourth quarter, capped off
by his three-yard scoring run with 1:32 remaining in the game to
put the game out of reach.
Bears' senior defensive back David Clement picked off two
passes and registered six tackles, while Brown senior defensive
back Chris Perkins made a game high 13 tackles, including five solo
hits.
Princeton got on the scoreboard on its first possession when
quarterback Tommy Wornham scored on a 12 yard run, after the Tigers
drove 67 yards on 11 plays to grab a 7-0 lead with 9:55 left in the
first quarter.
The Bears scored next when junior Patrick Rooney connected on a
30-yard field goal with 7:01 left in the quarter to pull the Bears
to within 7-3 of the Tigers.
Brown got the ball back following an interception by Clement at
the Brown 15-yard line. Two plays later, Newhall-Caballero
connected on an 80-yard pass to Farnham, who caught the ball at the
Brown 40, and ran the rest of the way into the end zone, giving the
Bears a 10-7 advantage.
Rooney added his second field goal of the day, this time a 29-yard
boot, to give the Bears a 13-7 lead with 10:18 left in the second
quarter, capping an 86-yard scoring drive.
Princeton took the lead, 14-13, on a 24-yard touchdown pass from
Worham toMeko McCray with 3:14 left in the half.
Brown answered once again, driving 75 yards in nine plays with
Newhall-Caballero connecting on a 17 yard touchdown pass to senior
wide receiver Bobby Sewall, to put the Bears up for good,
20-14.
A 27-yard Princeton field goal with no time on the clock cut
Brown's lead to 20-17 at the half.
Farnham electrified the Brown Parent's Day crowd by taking
the opening kickoff of the second half 92-yards for a touchdown to
give the Bears a 27-17 lead.
Senior defensive tackle David Howard and senior defensive end
James Develin each registered sacks for the Bears and two tackles
for a loss. Senior linebacker Kelly Cox made seven tackles for the
Bears.
Brown returns to Ivy action next Saturday, traveling to Ithaca,
New York, to face Cornell. Game time is 12:30 p.m. at Schoellkopf
Field.
