A three-time ECAC champion, Lisa Stern Kaplowitz ’95 concluded her Brown gymnastics career as the bars record holder for the Eastern College Athletic Conference, the Ivies and Brown University at the time of her graduation.
The four-year First Team All-Ivy Classic and two-year All-ECAC honoree captured the bars title at the 1992 ECAC Championship and won the all-around and bars titles at the 1993 ECAC Championship. She concluded her career as a four-time Team MVP.
Kaplowitz served the Bears as a three-year captain and gained Academic All-Ivy accolades as a sophomore, junior and senior.
A tireless advocate for women’s sports, Kaplowitz helped spur Brown to create more opportunities for women to participate in sports, and today the Bears boast the nation’s largest Division I women’s athletic program with 21 women’s varsity teams.
Kaplowitz has worked on behalf of the importance of women’s sports for decades. As an undergraduate, she spoke at local high schools about the life lessons that girls and young women could learn through athletics. As a professional, she serves as a board member of PowerPlay NYC, a nonprofit organization that uses sports to empower inner-city girls.
A loyal Bear, Kaplowitz has remained active in the Brown community. She is on the board of the Brown Club of Central New Jersey, was active on the 20th Reunion Leadership Committee and is a generous supporter of the Brown gymnastics program.
Kaplowitz currently works as an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Finance and Economics Department at Rutgers Business School. Leveraging her almost 25 years of experience as an investment banker and CFO, her teaching centers on the fundamentals of corporate finance with a focus on applying these concepts to decisions typically encountered in corporations and investment banking. She earned the Dean’s Meritorious Teaching Award in 2018.
