Rodney Dashnaw was a player who knew what to do when he handled a hockey puck. From the first day he laced his skates with the varsity, he found a way to make things happen. The Lake Placid, NY native was not pretty, but he showed what hard work could do, as well as having as excellent nose for the net. His success is evidenced by his career statistics of 47 goals, 56 assists for 103 points, which places 14th on the all-time scoring list. Dashnaw was a three-time All-Ivy selection and an All-East and All-New England pick as a senior. He is a rare player who improved his scoring statistics each season. As a sophomore, he was the second leading scorer with 16 goals, a team-high 13 assists and 29 points. As a junior, he tallied a team-high 20 goals, 13 assists for 33 points. His senior season, he connected for 19 goals, passed off for 23 assists and totaled 42 points, all team-bests. He also captained the team that year and was named the winner of the Class of 1936 Trophy as the team MVP. An alternate for the 1960 Olympic Team, Dashnaw played semi-pro hockey for the Lake Placid Roamers after graduating from Brown. As a player, he centered some of the top wings of his day and made them better. While he may have lacked finesse, he was not short on talent and he is remembered as one of the best of his era. Rodney, now a teacher and coach, resides in Phoenix, Arizona, with his wife, Mary, and his children, Elizabeth, Christopher and Mary Rita.
