OVERVIEW
The Pizzitola Memorial Sports Center was officially dedicated in April 1989, in memory of Paul Bailey Pizzitola ’81. It serves as the home competition arena for Brown basketball, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling.
The main gym provides bleacher and balcony seating for 2,800 spectators with the first floor housing a ticket office, sports medicine suite, and locker rooms for many of Brown's varsity teams. On the second level, the Joukowsky Room was renovated in 2018 to serve as a function space and houses displays and memorabilia that pay tribute to some of Brown's all-time great teams and student-athletes.
The second floor is also home to administrative and coaches offices, including the basketball and volleyball office suites, a gymnastics room, and a new student-athlete fueling station that opened in 2025.
The third floor is home to the Bears' Wrestling Room, and a state-of-the-art golf center complete with putting greens and two simulators.
The fourth floor contains four tennis courts that are housed under a fabric roof, which is made of teflon-coated fiberglass, a translucent material.
Designed by the Eggers Group of New York City, the Pizzitola Sports Center was built as the successor to Marvel Gymnasium. The main floor of the center is named the Williams Court for Howard Williams '17, former football player, track athlete and assistant football coach. A sliding divider on the main floor gives the facility flexibility for practice sessions.
