HISTORY
The Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park serves as the home course for Brown Cross Country. The course held its first meet in 2019 and sits on the grounds of the former Highland Country Club. It is named in honor of Attleboro native, retired U.S. Olympic marathoner, and track and field coach, Mark Coogan.

Brown competed at Highland for the first time in 2022 at the Friar Invitational, and hosted its first meet there, the annual Rothenberg Run, on October 21, 2022. The park has hosted the 2022 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships and Brown is slated to host the Ivy League Heptagonal XC Championships at Highland in 2026.

Opened in 1901, Highland Country Club ceased operations in January 2018 before the land was sold to the city of Attleboro. Later that year, the Doran Family made a generous $50,000 donation to the city to preserve its 93 acres for recreational purposes including running, walking and biking trails.

In 2024, the Attleboro City Council approved a measure protecting most of Highland Park from development.
