2023 Women's Crew Season Preview

Brown women’s crew is set to begin its spring schedule at Princeton against the Tigers and URI on Saturday at Lake Carnegie. The team is looking to earn its 26th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, which take place Pennsauken, N.J. on May 26-28.
The Bears will compete in six different regattas leading up to NCAA’s beginning on Saturday through the Ivy League Championship on May 14.
The Fall Slate
Brown began the fall at the Head of the Housatonic on Oct. 8. Brown’s ‘B’ boat posted a time of 15:53.2 to finish third, while the 'A' boat finished with a time of 15:24.5 to finish third among all boats. However, the Bears were assessed a 30-second penalty to fall back to fifth. Brown’s ‘C’ boat crossed the finish line in 16:06.7 for seventh.
Two weeks later at the 57th Head of the Charles. The Brown Championship Eight 'A' boat posted a time of 15:21.843 to finish fourth overall and third among collegiate crews. Brown's Championship Eight 'B' boat crossed the line with a time of 15:51.800 to finish 14th overall. The Championship Four crew finished second overall and first among collegiate crews with a time of 17:22.921.
Key Returners
28 Bears return from last year’s roster, including nine that competed in the 2022 NCAA Championships. Juniors Olivia Vavasour and Dahlia Levine and sophomore Caroline Schmitz rowed in the Varsity Eight. Juniors Emily Jaudon and Molly Lundberg and sophomore Nadia Vondeling competed in the Second Varsity Eight. The entire Varsity Four boat of juniors Eliza Atwood, Ashley Giannetti, Jessica Hooper, Kayden Obistnik and Bisbee Scott are back as well.
Newcomers
The roster consists of 16 freshmen. Seeing action already this fall were Hannah Hickson, Isla Wilding, Annabelle Harbold, Sedi Blachford, Tessa Tomkinson, Lila Nottage, Ellie Knight, Ava Lewis, Olivia Tingley-Kelley and Mary Claire Warren. Six others are set to join them on the water in Charlotte Derway, Francesca (Kiki) Fraim, Brooke Halversen, Caitlyn Roddy, Sophia Smith and Eugenia Rodriguez-Vazquez.
The Schedule
Following the season opener at Princeton, Brown heads to Sarasota, Florida for the Big 10 Invitational (April 7-8). From there, the Bears race in the Ivy League Invitational (April 15-16), host Cornell (April 22), and close the month at Eastern Sprints at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Ivy League Championship is next in Worcester (May 14) before the NCAA Championship in Pennsauken, N.J. (May 26-28).
