Women's Rugby Season Preview
9/3/2021

Kicking Things Off
The Brown women’s rugby team will take the field this Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. when the Bears host Army. It will be the team’s first game since Nov. 17, 2019.
“We are so excited to finally be back out on the field,” head coach Kathleen Flores said. “It’s been a long drought and the players are stoked to get going again. Army is going to be tough, but it’s a great match to open up with to let us know where we are in our preparations for the season. We’re looking forward to a very competitive match.”
After Army, Brown has six more games scheduled for this fall. They will play away games at Mount St. Mary’s (Sept. 11), LIU (Oct. 2), and Harvard (Oct. 9). Opponents coming to Providence include Sacred Heart (Sept. 18), Quinnipiac (Oct. 16), and Dartmouth (Oct. 30).

Roster Overview
The Bears carry a roster of 32 into the 2021 season. 18 of those student-athletes are upperclassmen with experience from at least the 2019 season.
In total, Brown is made up of 11 seniors, six juniors, five sophomores, nine freshmen, and one graduate student.
The Bears return four All-NIRA first team selections in Olivia Duba, Erin Jessop, Mahdia Parker, and Zy Thomas. Those four helped lead Brown to the NIRA Tier 2 Championship Match in 2019.

Sizing Up Army
During the 2020-21 season, in which Brown did not compete, Army went a perfect 12-0. The year before that, the Black Knights went 7-2 and made it to the NIRA Championship Game, but fell to Harvard.
It will be the first meeting between Brown and Army during the 15s season in program history. The Bears and Black Knights have faced off before in 7s, but never 15s.
