PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown senior Chiamaka Odenigbo has been recognized as the Northeast Regional Female Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the organization announced on Thursday.
The award was presented after Odenigbo's standout performances during the recently completed indoor season, which saw her earn two All-Ivy accolades and successfully defend her pentathlon title at Ivy League Heps.
The regional awards were voted upon by USTFCCCA member coaches and included results from both the regular season and the NCAA Championships.
Odenigbo successfully defended her pentathlon title at February's Ivy League Heps by scoring 4,027 points, good enough for the second-highest score in program history. It was also her third career Ivy League title, joining her outdoor high jump and pentathlon titles from 2023. She also finished runner-up in the high jump to earn Second Team All-Ivy honors in the event. She broke the program's high jump record at 1.82 meters on February 2 at the Crimson Elite as part of the pentathlon.
Odenigbo finished the 2024 season ranked No. 1 in the Ivy League in both the high jump (1.82m) and pentathlon (4,027), No. 7 in the triple jump (12.34m), and on the track ranked No. 2 in the 60m hurdles with her personal record of 8.52 seconds, which ranks third all-time in program history. Her season-high were also impressive on a regional level, ranking No. 1 in the NCAA Northeast Region in the high jump and No. 2 in the pentathlon.
Odenigbo's performances helped highlight a strong jumps group for the Bears, who finished sixth in all of Division I in the high jump in the #EventSquad rankings, the highest of any non-power conference program. Brown also ranked fourth nationally in the triple jump and 13th in the pentathlon.
