Women's Swimming and Diving Announces 2022-23 Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's swimming and diving has announced its team awards for the 2022-23 season. Seven student athletes were honored with an award at the end of year banquet for the team.
Martha Joukowsky '58 Scholar-Athlete Award - Anna Podurgiel
Podurgiel was a member of the 800 freestyle relay team that set a school record with a time of 7:11.35. The sophomore finished sixth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 200 IM at the 2023 Ivy League Championships. Podurgiel is also a double concentrator in Business Economics and Behavioral Decision Sciences.
Clements competed in three races at the Ivy League Championships, finishing 11th in the 400 IM and 16th in the 200 backstroke and served as a team captain.
Barrett had the top times on the team in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyles during the season. Barrett won 11 different events in the distance freestyles during the regular season.
Lukinac finished third at the Ivy League Championships in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA B Cut time of 49.36. She also finished fifth in the 200 free and 17th in the 50 free as well as being a part of the 800 freestyle relay team that set the school record in the event.

This annual award is given to the member of the Women's Swimming & Diving Team who, through dedication in the classroom and in the pool, exemplifies the true meaning of a scholar-athlete.

Rebecca More Leadership & Service Award - Emily Clements
This award – determined by a Team vote – is given to a member of the Women's Swimming & Diving Team who selflessly gives of herself to the Team in ways both in and out of the pool and who best exemplifies the ideal of a leader within the Team and beyond.
Clements competed in three races at the Ivy League Championships, finishing 11th in the 400 IM and 16th in the 200 backstroke and served as a team captain.
Dave Sias Diving Award - Sophie Elwyn
This award is presented upon recommendation by the coaching staff to a member of the Men's or Women's Diving Team to recognize outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution to the Diving Program.
Elwyn finished 20th in the 3-meter and 22nd in the 1-meter at the Ivy League Championships in 2023, making the Ivies for the first time in her career. Elwyn also served as a senior team captain.
Dave Roach P'05 Coaches' Award - Sara Barrett
This annual award is given to a member of the Women's Swimming & Diving Team who has demonstrated the qualities of dedication, personal self-improvement, and sportsmanship. This student-athlete has shown true determination and hard work, thus earning the respect of their contemporaries and proving their worth to the team.

Elaine Palmer '84 Performance Award - Sam Scott
In competition, one specific performance by an individual can stand out as a turning point for the meet, the team, and even the program. This award is given annually to an individual to highlight that one exceptional performance in dual or championship season competition.
Scott was given this award for her performance in the 100 freestyle at the Ivy League Championships, finishing seventh in the event.

Outstanding First Year Award - Morgan Lukinac
This annual award is given to the top first-year individual point scorer at Ivy Championships.
Lukinac finished third at the Ivy League Championships in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA B Cut time of 49.36. She also finished fifth in the 200 free and 17th in the 50 free as well as being a part of the 800 freestyle relay team that set the school record in the event.
Florence Filippo Most Valuable Performer Award - Zehra Bilgin
This annual award is given to the member of the Women's Swimming & Diving Team who contributed the most to the success of the team in total individual points scored at Ivy Championships.
Bilgin earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly at the Ivy League Championships with an NCAA B Cut time of 1:58.59. She also finished seventh in the 100 fly and 15th in the 100 backstroke at the Championships. Bilgin was also a member of the record-setting team in the 800 freestyle relay.
