Blatteis Saves PK as Men's Soccer Draws With Penn

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior goalkeeper Hudson Blatteis dove to his left and rejected a Penn penalty kick in the 58th minute to preserve a scoreless draw against the Quakers on Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
The Bears are now 4-4-4 and 1-0-3 in the Ivy League, which keeps them in the top four of the conference standings. Penn moves to 3-3-5 and 1-1-2 in the league for a share of fourth in the standings.
"The boys played hard and competed for 90 minutes," said Assistant Coach Andy Parker. "We'll take the clean sheet but unfortunately we are lacking some quality in the final third. At the same time Penn has only conceded eight goals on the year so credit to them and how they defend. At some point we've got to start turning these ties into wins and we have another chance on Tuesday against URI."
Blatteis came through with big play after big play all night. Penn had a breakaway in the 25th minute after a free kick and Blatteis came racing out of the box to stop the ball in its tracks. Junior Jack Cloherty then cleared the threat for the Bears.
Later in the 28th minute, Blatteis saved a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
The penalty kick came in the 58th minute. Blatteis picked the right spot to dive to save Penn's junior Stas Korzeniowski's kick and keep it scoreless.
The PK save energized the offense and freshman Lorenzo Amaral and senior Kojo Dadzie each had shots on goal. Senior Taha Kina had a big time blocked shot in the 84th minute and Tanner Barry had the best opportunity to score in the 89th minute, but his shot went wide.
Brown travels to face URI on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for the final regular season nonconference game of the season.
