Note: Individual matches scored only, no team score.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team returned to competition for the first time since 2020 and competed at Bryant on Sunday afternoon.
"It was so great to get the competitive cobwebs out and feel the pressure of competition again," said Lucie Schmidhauser. "We definitely started out very slow in doubles, but found the right balance in singles. The team chemistry is so great and I'm really excited to see what the future holds for this team. Our players really embrace the concept of unconditional support for each other while challenging each other to be the best they can be."
The Bears received a win in doubles from senior Courtney Kowalsky (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and sophomore Britany Lau (Kinnelon, N.J.) with a 7-5 showing in the first spot.
For singles play, Lau picked up her second win of the day and took her first singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Junior Julia Newman (Natick, Mass.) followed in the second spot and came from behind initially to top Sarah Hickey in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8. Freshmen Nora Lee (Oakland, Calif.) and Olivia Mariotti (Manchester by the Sea, Mass.) both saw their first action in a Brown uniform with both rookies posting victories. Lee took her third singles match 6-2, 6-1 while Mariotti battled out a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win in the fourth position.
