
Ehlert Lands 15 Kills, Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Northwestern State

ATLANTA, Ga. – Senior Makena Ehlert tallied 15 kills and eight digs, but Brown University volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-20) decision to Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon in the Georgia State Tournament at GSU Sports Arena.

The Bears (7-2), who entered the contest on a six-match win streak, pushed the Demons (8-6) in all three frames before falling in straight sets.

"Give credit to Northwestern State for playing a good match," Brown head coach Ahen Kim said. "With that, we know there are some areas where we can improve. We'll learn from this match and turn our attention to playing Georgia State tomorrow."

With her match-high 15 kills, Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) has now posted double-figure kills in all nine matches on the season. Juniors Eliza Grover (Menlo Park, Calif.) and Gabrielle Moriconi (Naples, Fla.) added seven and six kills respectively.

Sophomore setter Kristin Sellers (Menlo Park, Calif.) distributed a match-best 23 assists to go with seven digs and three aces. She has posted over 20 assists in all nine matches on the year.

Freshman Kaitlyn Wong (Los Altos, Calif.) and sophomore Paris Winkler (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) contributed 12 and eight digs apiece. Wong has notched double-figure digs in three straight matches.

Brown held an 18-17 lead in set one before Northwestern State rallied for a 25-22 win in the opening frame. The Bears remained within 22-21 late in the set before the Demons won three of the period's final four points. Ehlert landed eight kills in the frame while Sellers connected on 12 assists.

Northwestern State extended its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-19 win in set two. After the Demons moved ahead 13-6, the Bears could pull no closer than four points at 18-14.

The Bears responded, taking an early lead in set three, prior to Northwestern State coming back to close the match with a 25-20 set win. Brown opened the frame with a 10-8 edge before the Demons pulled ahead 17-12. The Bears cut the margin to three at 23-20, but the Demons took the next two points. Ehlert came up with four kills in the frame.

For Northwestern State, Alexis Warren (14 kills, 11 digs) and Hannah Brister (11 kills, 14 digs) each notched double-doubles. Meghan Lohmiller compiled on a match-high 18 digs.

Next, Brown closes the Georgia State Tournament against the host Panthers tomorrow – Sunday, Sept. 22 – at noon.
