
Men's Hockey Alum Farnham Makes NHL Debut

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Brown forward Bobby Farnham '12 made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday in the team's shootout loss to Columbus. He also returned to the lineup on Monday in Pittsburgh's victory over Tampa Bay at home.
Farnham received a fighting major against Jordan Leopold of the Bluejackets in the first period of his NHL debut on Saturday. The 25-year-old winger posted just under 10 minutes of ice time on Monday, as he recorded five hits and helped the Penguins down the Lighting, 4-2.
A native of North Andover, Mass. Farnham was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League during his third season with the Pittsburgh affiliate. He has one goal, four points and a team-leading 113 penalty minutes in 23 games played for WBS this season. Pittsburgh re-signed Farnham to a one-year, two-way contract this past summer after he recorded seven goals, 14 points and 166 penalty minutes in 64 regular-season games for WBS in 2013-14.
Farnham, who enjoyed a four-year collegiate career for the Bears, served as an alternate captain as a senior, when he set career highs in goals (t-8), assists (13) and points (21) in 31 games played. Farnham finished his career with 54 points (23G-31A) and 128 penalty minutes in 129 games. He won the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award in 2012, presented by the Hockey Commissioners Association to a player who personifies Hines' spirit and relentless commitment.
Farnham is the fifth Brown alum to appear in an NHL game over the last three seasons, along with Yann Danis '04, Ryan Garbutt '09, Aaron Volpatti '10 and Harry Zolnierczyk '11.
Brown returns to action in 2015 with a pair on non-conference games at the Dartmouth Ledyard Bank Tournament. The Bears will play Boston College (1/2) and Denver (1/3).
