Women's Cross Country Finishes in Fourth at CCSU Meet

New Britain, CT - The Brown University women's cross country team placed fourth out of 14 teams with a total of 114 points at the sixth annual Central Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon. Finishing in first was Boston University, followed by Providence College, and the University of Connecticut.

Freshmen Ari Garber (North Falmouth, MA) and Galia Dietz (Richland, WA) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, to lead the Bears. Both recorded a team off 11:25 on the two-mile course.

Brown's next finisher was freshman Emily Mepham (Sudbury, MA) with an 11:48 for 24th place. Rachel Baker earned a 12:07, as Caroline Scanlan (Hillsborough, CA) earned a 12:08 for 42nd place and Whitney Sparks (Bronxville, NY) had a good performance for Bruno as well.

The men's cross country team earned sixth place out of the 14 teams competing with 171 points. Leading the squad was freshman Anthony Schurz (South Bend, IN) with a 15:42 for 17th place, followed by Sam Sheehan's (Woodland, ME) 15:53 performance for 30th. Ethan Hickey (Liverpool, NY and Mike Elnick (Merrick, NY) earned 41st and 42nd with a 16:05 and 16:06, respectively, and sophomore Chris Collins (Wilton, CT) turned in a 16:13. Also running for Brown was freshman Christian Trautwein (Ridgewood, NJ), who turned in a solid effort with a 16:45.

The Bears are back in action on Friday, Oct. 31st at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.
