WARWICK, R.I. – Senior Heidi Caldwell (Hanover, N.H.) finished second overall to lead the Brown University women's cross country team to a first-place finish as the Bears hosted the Rothenberg Invitational Friday afternoon at Goddard State Park. Brown hosted five teams including Boston College, Dartmouth, Rhode Island, UMass-Lowell and St. John's.
Caldwell, who was one of four Bears to place inside the top-five, finished the 5-kilometer course in a time of 17:22.2 to place second overall. Sophomore Lily Harrington (West Hartford, Conn.) was close behind in third as she crossed the finish line in a time of 17:28.1. Junior Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, N.H.) and junior Alexandra Conway (Manchester, N.H.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 17:40.9 and 17:57.4.
Freshman Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed eighth overall in a time of 18:11.2 to round out the Brown scorers. In addition, sophomore Sophie Mateu (Simi Valley, Calif.), senior Kat Grimes (Chatham, N.J.) and sophomore Victoria O'Neil (Boise, Idaho) all recorded top-20 finishes.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on the campus of Princeton University.
