Before Brown: A four-year varsity letterwinner and two-year team captain in both cross country & track & field at Royal High School ... During her senior cross country season, Mateau placed 10th at CIF Preliminaroes (93 runners), and was an All-Ventura County and All-Marmonte League second team selection ... Finished in fourth (winner of senior race) at Ojai Invitational (197 runners) and received the Scholar Athlete Award and Coaches Award ... During her junior XC season, she was the Ventura County Junior Runner of the Year, and was an All-Ventura County and All-Marmonte League first team honoree ... She was the most valuable runner and was a recipent of the Scholar Athlete Award ... In track that season, she received the Most Valuable Award, and earned first in the 3200 at Camarillo Invitational and was fourth in the 3200m at the Don Green Invitational.
