Connelly Leads Women's Cross Country to Third Place at Ivy Heps
Bronx, NY- Freshman Margaret Connelly's time of 17:29.5 during the 2010 Ivy League Cross Country Heptagonal Championships this afternoon not only earned her a fifth-place finish overall, but it was the fastest time that any Brown runner has ever run at Van Cortlandt Park. The Bears finished in third place overall with 63 points, as Connelly earned First Team All-Ivy honors and both Lauren Pischel and Elaine Kuckertz were named to the Second Team.
Princeton won the championship with 33 points, followed by Columbia (60), Brown, Cornell (98), Harvard (121), Penn (168), Dartmouth (177) and Yale (182).
"The women put together a great race today," said Head Women's Cross Country Coach Jill Miller. "They were ready to compete and really showed their toughness out on the course today. It was exciting to see Margaret fight hard while both Lauren and Ari battled through setbacks to place high today. Overall we are really looking forward to the NCAA Regional Meet."
Also running a great race this afternoon for Bruno was Pischel, who turned in a solid 10th place time of 17:49.2, while Kuckertz had a strong performance with a 17:52.5 for 12th place. Junior Ari Garber finished 16th overall with a 17:54.9 and freshman Heidi Caldwell was Brown's next finisher with a 17:59.8. Also competing for the Bears today was senior Kesley Ramsey (18:24.1) and freshman Kat Grimes (18:33.0).
