Providence, RI - Junior Alexis Blaxberg (Pinecrest, FL) became the sixth Brown player to earn CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week honors on Wednesday, after leading the 18th-ranked Bears (18-8, 5-2 Northern Div.) to a 4-0 week.
Blaxberg led the Bears with 11 goals and 10 steals in four Northern Division wins. She also tied for second on the squad with four drawn ejections. Blaxberg led the Bears in scoring with three goals against Connecticut College in a 19-3 win, and with four goals against Utica in a 20-2 victory. She also led the Bears in steals with four against the Camels and with three thefts in a 13-3 win over Queens.
For the season, Blaxberg has 22 goals in 26 games, good for sixth on the Bears, and her 23 steals are third on the squad.
Blaxberg joins teammates Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA), Caitlin Fahey (Bellevue, WA), Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI), Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA), and Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA), who have all won Player of the Week honors this season.
The Bears, who are ranked 18th in the nation for the second consecutive week after spending two weeks at No. 19, will be the second seed in this weekend's Northern Division Championship tournament at Connecticut College. They'll play Utica and Queens College on Saturday in the opening round, just a week after sweeping the two teams on the same day, 20-2 and 13-3. If the seeds hold, they would face Harvard in the semifinals the next morning, and a win would advance them to the Championship game with #12 Hartwick. This weekend's top two teams are guaranteed a spot in the Eastern Championships the following weekend at Princeton, with the third-place team possibly earning a wild-card bid.
