April 16, 2003
Four athletes from the Brown women's water polo team have been selected as All-ECAC performers for the 2003 season. Senior Tori Barbata (Kailua, HI) and junior Keira Heggie (Miami, FL) were honored on the first team, while junior Jeanie Ward-Waller (San Antonio, TX) and sophomore Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA) were recognized on the second team.
Barbata, who earned First Team recognition in 2001 and Second Team honors last season, helped to lead the Bears to a third place finish at the 2003 ECAC Championships with six goals in four games. She is currently the fifth leading scorer on the team with 17 goals. Heggie, who has backstopped the Bears for the past three years, is one of the most consistent goaltenders in the east. A First Team All-ECAC selection in 2001 and 2002 as well, Heggie made 49 saves over four games for the Bears, including 15 in Brown's overtime loss to Hartwick in the semi-finals. She currently has 200 saves on the season.
Ward-Waller is also making her third straight appearance on an All-ECAC team. After earning First Team recognition as a freshman and a sophomore, Ward-Waller was named to the Second Team this year, drawing three ejections in the tournament. The seventh leading scorer on the team with 14 goals, Ward-Waller is also one of the team leaders in drawn ejections. Finally, the Bears' second-leading scorer with 23 goals, Livermore is making her first appearance on an All-ECAC team. In four games, Livermore notched three goals, while also drawing five kick-outs.
The Bears currently have a 15-7 record and will next compete in the 2003 Eastern Championships from April 25-27. The Bears enter the Championships, which are hosted by Harvard, as the #5 seed.
