Providence, RI - Senior center forward Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA) became the fourth Brown player in five weeks to be named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Varsity Division Player of the Week on Monday. She led the 19th-ranked Bears with 10 goals and eight ejections drawn at the Aztec Invitational over the weekend, as the team went 3-1.
Balassone led the Bears in scoring in three of the four games. She had two of the Bears' three goals against fourth-ranked San Diego State, drawing an ejection and grabbing two steals. She later scored four times and drew three ejections in the second game of the day, a 10-4 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. She had two goals in each of Brown's Sunday games, an 8-7 win in overtime over Pomona-Pitzer and a 9-7 win over Cal State Bakersfield, in which she drew four ejections.
For the season, Balassone now leads the team with 33 goals and 21 ejections drawn in 17 games. She joins freshman Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA), senior Caitlin Fahey (Bellevue, WA), and freshman Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI), who won Player of the week on February 27, March 5, and March 19, respectively.
The Bears, now 12-4, resume play on Tuesday, when they square off with California Baptist and #15 Long Beach State.
