Providence, RI - Junior goalkeeper Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Northern Division Player of the Week and Bethany Kwoka (San Mateo, CA) received Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Brown women's water polo team to a victory over New York Athletic Club this weekend. Later that day, the Bears dropped an 8-4 decision over No. 8 ranked University of Michigan
Laing had two outstanding performances in the net for the Brown water polo team this week, as she combined for 28 saves, including four steals, in two games to open its 2009 campaign. Laing was very strong in the cage against NYAC, posting 13 saves to help lead Bruno to an 11-9 win. Laing followed it up with 15 saves in bet against the tough No. 8 Wolverines during Brown's 8-4 deficit.
Kwoka started off her collegiate career strong, tallying three goals and three steals in her first two matches as a Bear. Kwoka notched two goals against NYAC, and posted another against Michigan.
Brown is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 21, when it takes on Maryland at 12:30 p.m. and then challenges Bucknell at 6:45 p.m. during the Princeton Invitational.
