Women's Water Polo Advances to Eastern Championship Game, Defeating #9 Michigan, 5-4

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Brown women's water polo team upset #9 Michigan in the Eastern Championship semi-finals to advance to Sunday's Championship game. The Bears defeated the Wolverines, 5-4, while earning a win over the highest-ranked team Brown has ever beaten.
Leading the way for the Bears was junior Jackie Parente (Los Angeles, CA) with two goals, while senior Tori Barbata (Kailua, HI), junior Sonia Lamel (LaFayette, CA), and sophomore Diana Livermore (Menlo Park, CA) each added one goal.
Livermore and junior Jeanie Ward-Waller (San Antonio, TX) led Brown, each drawing two ejections, while Barbata drew one ejection and Lamel added three steals. In net for the Bears, junior Keira Heggie (Miami, FL) made eight saves.
Brown will face #13 Indiana in the Championship game on Sunday afternoon at 2:50. The winner of that game will earn an automatic bid to the 2003 NCAA Final Four.
