Women's Water Polo Finishes Fifth At ECAC Championships

College Park, MD - The women's water polo team edged out Harvard 6-5, on a goal by junior Caitlin Fahey with 5:05 to go in the game, that gave the Bears a 6-4 lead. The win gave Brown fifth place at ECAC championships.

The Bears jumped out to a one-goal lead after sophomore Alexis Blaxberg fired a shot in the back of the net with 3:02 to go in the opening quarter. After a Harvard goal Brown struck again as junior Paige Lansing netted her first of two goals in the game on a six on five with 1:10 to go in the first giving Brown the 2-1 lead. Sophomore Ally Wyatt doubled the lead at the 2:25 mark in the second giving the Bears a 3-1 halftime lead.

The Bears scored back-to-back goals late in the third, as junior Karlyanna Kopra and Lansing netted the goals two minutes apart to give Brown a 5-2 lead heading into the final quarter. After Fahey's goal at the 5:05 mark Harvard fired in two more shots to cut the deficit to one goal, but that was as close as the Crimson was going to get as sophomore Anne Deggelman anchored the Brown defense stopping ten in the net for the win.

The Bears will return to action Saturday April 8th when they host Harvard for a 12:30 p.m. match-up and face Hartwick later in he evening at 7:30 p.m.
