Riverside, CA - The women's water polo team, ranked 18th in the country, improved to 7-3 on the season, in a come-from-behind 5-4 overtime win over #19 California Baptist University.
Brown took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, but CBU responded and took a 2-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bears tied it at 2-2, but the Lancers regained the lead on a goal with 3:52 left in the second quarter, and took a 4-2 lead with 2:41 left before the half.
However, junior Keira Heggie (Miami, FL) and the rest of the Brown defense played tough the rest of the way, holding CBU scoreless for the entire second half. The Bears started the come-back with a goal by senior Julie Williams (Berkeley, CA) wwith 1:25 left in the third quarter. Freshman Jamie Relth (Carlsbad, CA) netted the tying goal with just 3:29 left in the game, sending it into overtime.
With just 37 seconds left in the first overtime, freshman Allison Biner (Moraga, CA) found the back of the net with a long shot, giving Brown the 5-4 lead and the win. In net, Heggie made 23 saves for the Bears.
Brown continues action on March 25, when the Bears take on Redlands at 7:00 p.m. in California.
