College Park, MD - The fifth seeded women's water polo team fell in their open match-up at the ECAC Championship, falling to Wagner 8-5, but rebounded to beat Gannon 11-5. Sophomore Anne Deggelman anchored the defense making nine blocks in goal on the day.
In the loss to Wagner, the Bears were led by junior Caitlin Fahey and freshman Rory Stanton who each tallied a goal while junior Paige Lansing rounded out the scoring netting a goal. Deggleman made three stops in net in the match-up.
In their second match-up of the afternoon, Brown used a three goal first quarter to set the tone of the match-up as the Bears cruised to an 11-5 win over Gannon. Led by junio Elizabeth Balassone's three goals the Bears took a 5-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Other goal scorers for Brown was sophomore Alexis Blaxberg and Fahey each netted two goals while Lansing, junior Karlyanna Kopra, Stanton and freshman Alexandra Ferguson rounded out the scorer putting in a goal a piece. Lansing was also a force on the defensive side making two steals and also assisting on two other Brown goals. Deggelman made six blocks in net for the Bears.
The Bears will wrap up the first day of the ECAC Championships with a 9:00 p.m. match-up with Villanova.
