#20 Bears Lose Late Lead, Fall to #13 Hartwick, 13-7

Feb. 25, 2007

Cambridge, MA - Despite holding a 7-4 lead late in the third quarter, the #20 Brown women's water polo team (3-1, 0-1 CWPA) was unable to hold on, as #13 Hartwick (12-7, 2-0) stormed back and took a 13-7 win at Harvard University's Blodgett Pool. Freshman Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA) led the Bears with three goals, while senior Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) and freshman Lauren Presant (Poway, CA) had two goals apiece.

After Hartwick drew first blood, Lansing, Glick, and Presant each scored once to give Brown a 3-1 lead after one quarter. A Hartwick goal and Glick's second score, both of which came in the first three minutes of the second quarter, made the halftime score 4-2.

Two Hartwick goals and one more each by the trio of Bears made the score 7-4 with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter. However, the goal by Presant that gave Brown that three-goal lead would be the last by her team. The Hawks exploded for two more goals in the third and seven in the fourth, taking the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) had 11 blocks and two assists in the cage. Junior Emily Schwartz (Miami, FL) and sophomore Rory Stanton (Danville, CA) each drew two ejections.

The Bears will be back in action next weekend at the ECAC Championship, held at Harvard. The field will also include Bucknell, Harvard, Marist, Maryland, #17 Princeton, Slippery Rock, and Wagner.
