Princeton, NJ - The Bears started off the 2006 season on a positive note, as they dominated George Washington 14-6 in their season opener at the Princeton Invitational. Brown held George Washington to no goals in the second quarter to jump out to a 6-2 halftime lead.
Junior Caitlin Fahey (Seattle, WA) opened up the scoring at the 6:08 mark in the opening quarter, netting her first of four goals for the early lead. George Washington quickly countered, scoring back-to-back goals for the 2-1 lead. The Bears came charging back, tallying five unanswered goals to close out the first half for the 6-2 lead.
Junior Paige Lansing (Newport Beach, CA) was a force on both sides of the pool this afternoon, netting two goals and dishing out two assists offensively, while collecting two steals on the defensive side. Freshmen Rory Stanton (Danville, CA) and Alexandra Ferguson (Seattle, WA) recorded their first collegiate goals in the win. Stanton finished the game with two goals and two ejections drawn. Also recording two goals was junior Karlyanna Kopra (Kamuela, HI) while junior Claire Angyal (Sydney, AUS), classmate Elizabeth Balassone (Los Altos, CA) and sophomore Alexis Blaxberg (Miami, FL) rounded out the scoring posting a goal.
The defense was anchored by sophomore Anne Deggelman (Portola Valley, CA) who tallied four blocks in net for Brown.
The Bears will return to the pool later this afternoon at 2:15 p.m. to take on Indiana in their second match-up in the Princeton Invitational.
