BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA – The Brown women's water polo team (12-13, 2-2 CWPA) concluded its spring break trip to the West Coast on Saturday, dropping a 16-5 decision to the #1 University of Southern California Trojans on the second day of the Roadrunner Invitational.

The Bears played aggressively against the top-ranked team in the country, striking first to take a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game on an outside shot by senior Katharine Booher (Palo Alto, CA). The Trojans came firing back however, netting three unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a lead. Brown tacked on two goals in the second stanza, as sophomores Madison Pepper (Baytown, TX) and Emily Klein (Pleasanton, CA) each found the back of the net, but the Bears still found themselves down at the half, 7-3. Junior Sarah Presant (Poway, CA) and freshman Emma Dodd (Pasadena, CA) rounded out the scoring for Brown, as they each registered a goal in the second half of the contest. Defensively, Booher continued her impressive play, grabbing two steals in the game. Junior Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) was also solid, making a team-high three steals, while both junior Emily McNamara (Winters, CA) and senior Claudia Ruiz (Sacramento, CA) added two steals. Junior Sarah Shin (Fullerton, CA) played a tough game in between the pipes, making six saves.
Brown finished its spring break trip with a 6-5 record, and will return to the pool for a divisional clash against Harvard at Blodgett Pool in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 3rd. The game will begin at 7:00pm.
