  • Brown Women's Water Polo Honored by ACWPC for Excellence in Academics

    The ACWPC All-Academic Awards were released on Tuesday, and the Brown women's water polo team averaged a 3.39 GPA to rank fifth in the country. Additionally, the team placed 13 student-athletes on the list of honorees, as each was granted with an All-Academic award. Wagner earned the top ranking with a 3.50, followed by Chapman University (3.46), Macalester (3.46) and Indiana University (3.371).
  • Madison Pepper and Kate Woods Earn ACWPC All-American Accolades

    Two members of the Brown women’s water polo team have been named to the 2013 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American team. Rising junior Madison Pepper (Baytown, TX) and rising senior Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) both earned honorable mention accolades for their performances during the 2013 season, making their first appearance on the ACWPC All-American roster.
  • Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • Brown Earns Fifth Place at CWPA Eastern Championships with 18-9 Win Over Harvard

    The Brown women’s water polo team (18-20, 5-3 CWPA Southern) produced its third win of the weekend at the 2013 CWPA Eastern Championships on Sunday, earning fifth place in their final competition of the season. The Bears defeated the Harvard Crimson by a score of 18-9 at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium, and the win, Brown’s third over its Ivy League foe this season, marks the first time that the squad has finished in the top five since 2008.
  • Brown Earns Spot in CWPA Eastern Championships Fifth Place Game with 12-7 Win Over Bucknell

    The Brown women’s water polo team (17-20, 5-3 CWPA Southern) turned in another winning performance at the 2013 CWPA Eastern Championships on Saturday. The three-day competition, held this year at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium, features 11 of the league’s Division I/II members and the Division III champion battling for the championship crown and an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships.
  • Woods and Pepper Earn CWPA Southern Division First Team Honors

    Two members of the Brown women’s water polo team (15-19, 5-3 CWPA) have been named to the 2013 CWPA Southern Division All-Conference Team in a vote by the league’s head coaches. Junior Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) and sophomore Madison Pepper (Baytown, TX) each earned first team accolades for their performances during the 2013 season. The awards were presented to the student-athletes at Thursday evening’s CWPA Eastern Championships banquet.

  • Brown Wins Two on First Day of CWPA Southern Divisional, Earning Berth in Championship Game

    The Brown women’s water polo team (15-18, 5-2 CWPA Southern) produced a dominant performance on the first day of the 2013 CWPA Southern Division Championships. The Bears, competing in their home pool, defeated the Mercyhurst Lakers, 12-7, in the first game of the day before beating the Harvard Crimson, 16-12, for the second time this season. The undefeated day snapped a five-game loosing streak for Brown, and earned the team a berth in the CWPA Southern Division Championship game.
  • Brown to Host the 2013 CWPA Southern Division Championships This Weekend

    The Brown women’s water polo team will host the 2013 CWPA Southern Division Championships this weekend at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, and all nine games played to determine the 2013 Champion will be video streamed. Competition begins at 10:00am on Saturday, April 13th, and will conclude with the championship game at 12:00pm on Sunday, April 14th. Video is available for $8 per day, and can be accessed here.
  • Brown Defeated, 11-7, by #15 Michigan on Senior Day

    The Brown women’s water polo team (13-18, 3-2 CWPA) fell to the 15th-ranked Michigan Wolverines (16-12) by a score of 11-7 on Sunday afternoon, completing its regular season and capping off the Bruno Water Polo Invitational.

  • Brown Earns 12-10 Win Over Harvard To Make Felix Mercado the Winningest Coach in Program History

    The Brown women’s water polo team (13-13, 3-2 CWPA) got out to an early lead and fought off a last quarter surge to earn a 12-10 win over Harvard (13-10, 2-1 CWPA) on Thursday evening at Blodgett Pool. With the win, head coach Felix Mercado becomes the winningest coach in program history, overtaking Todd Clapper, as he now has 106 victories in his six seasons with the Bears.

The wins lifted the Bears to an 11-11 overall record, while boosting their spring break tally to 5-3.

    The Brown women’s water polo team (3-7, 1-2 Southern) snapped a five-game losing streak this evening with a 15-12 victory over the George Washington Colonials (6-6, 0-1 Southern) at Mercyhurst’s North East Aquatics Center. The win was the Bears’ first CWPA Southern Division triumph of the young season.

    The Brown women’s water polo team (2-7, 0-2 Southern) suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the #12 Princeton Tigers (7-2, 1-0 Southern) on Friday evening at DeNunzio Pool, falling by a score of 15-4. The home team took an edge in the first quarter that it never relinquished, pressuring the visitors’ defense all night.

  • Water Polo Wins Brown Classic
    February 10, 2013
    The Brown women’s water polo team rebounded from an 0-2 start on day one with a pair of wins on Sunday to win its season opening tournament. After dropping a pair of narrow decisions to Wagner (8-7) and Colorado State (10-9) on Saturday, the Bears earned a 14-8 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday morning to move into the Championship Game. Brown avenged its earlier loss to Wagner, by defeating the Seahawks, 5-4, in the Championship game.

  • Mark Lawrence Joins Brown Water Polo Staff

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Mark Lawrence joins the Brown Water Polo coaching staff after spending two years at MIT as head coach of the Men's Water Polo program. Originally from Fremont, Calif., an alumni of Queens College, and member of the Queens College 2002 NCAA Final Four team, Lawrence brings over 15 years of both playing and coaching experience to College Hill.
