Poughkeepsie, NY- The Brown University women's water polo team (11-6) finished the weekend 4-0 with victories against St. Francis and Iona this afternoon at the Marist Invite. The Bears defeated the Terriers 18-7, and then beat the Gaels, 9-3.
The Bears offense was hot against St. Francis as the squad built a 6-3 lead after the first eight minutes of play and increased their lead to 9-4 at halftime. Brown went on to outscore the Terriers 6-1 in the third and 3-2 in the fourth to secure the victory.
Sophomore Kate Woods led the offense with six goals, followed by Liz Rosen with five. Also scoring was Sarah Presant with three, Samantha Ryu and Madison Pepper with two each. Evan Cranston tallied four saves in three quarters of play and Sarah Shin earned five in the fourth quarter.
Against the Gaels, Iona held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but Brown shut out Iona's offense in the next three quarters while scoring seven goals to earn the 9-3 win.
Pepper led the scoring with three goals, while Rosen, Presant and Woods each added two. Cranston led the defense by picking up nine saves in the cage.
The Bears will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at Harvard.
