Water Polo Falls to Maryland & Indiana

Troy, NY – The Brown women's water polo team was defeated 12-7 by Maryland and edged 12-11 by Indiana on Saturday afternoon in games hosted at RPI. Sophomore Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) led the scoring with seven goals, while Evan Cranston (Palo Alto, CA) carried the defense with 18 saves in Brown's two games.

Against Maryland, the Terps swam out to a 5-3 lead in the first quarter, and then shut the Bears down 1-0 in the second to take a 6-3 lead at the half. Maryland continued to roll and outscored Brown 6-4 in the final two quarter to earn a 12-7 win.

Freshman Madison Pepper (Baytown, TX) led the offense with four goals, followed by Gusty Clarke (New Canaan, CT), Samantha Ryu (Santa Barbara, CA) and Sarah Presant (Poway, CA) with one goal each. Cranston picked up eight saves in the cage.

Woods lit up for seven goals against Indiana, but it wasn't enough for the Bears to earn the win. The Hoosiers headed into halftime with an 8-4 lead over Brown, but the Bears were able to outscore Indiana 4-3 in the third and 3-1 in the fourth falling just short of a tie.

Adding to the offense was Pepper, Liz Rosen (San Anselmo, CA), Presant and Katharine Booher (Palo Alto, CA) with one goal apiece, while Cranston earned 11 saves in net.
