Providence, RI- Sophomore Kate Woods (La Jolla, CA) and freshman Evan Cranston (Palo Alto, CA) earned CWPA Southern Division honors after helping the Brown women's water polo team to a 4-0 weekend at the Bison Invitational hosted at Bucknell. Woods was named the Southern Division Player of the week, her ninth weekly award from the CWPA in her career, and Cranston is earning her first collegiate award as the Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Woods tallied 15 points and eight steals during Brown's perfect weekend at Bucknell. She dented the twine nine times and collected six assists on offense and added four ejections drawn and three field blocks to her eight steals. Woods found paydirt twice in both opening day contests as Brown knocked off Gannon University (W, 20-6) and Bucknell College (W, 8-7). After scoring once against Marist College (W, 7-5), she exploded for four goals in the tournament finale against Wagner College (W, 12-11).
Cranston had a great weekend for the Bears as she posted 35 saves in 3 ¼ games in the cage. She played the first quarter of Brown's 20-6 win against Gannon and earned four saves. She then played the next three games posting 10 saves against the Bison, nine saves against the Red Foxes, and 12 in Brown's final game against the Seahawks. Cranston also added three steals and two assists.
The Bears are back in action at 6 p.m. on Feb. 24 vs. Hartwick.
