Cambridge, Mass. – The Brown University women's water polo team lost 12-9 in overtime to Hartwick College hosted at Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Leading the Bears' offense was Brittany Westerman (Palo Alto, CA) with three goals, while goalkeeper Stephanie Laing (Ann Arbor, MI) recorded 16 saves in net to lead the defense.
The Bears gained a 3-1 lead after the first eight minutes of play, and went on to extend their lead to 6-3 at the half. But Hartwick was able to outscore Brown 2-1 in the third and 3-1 in the fourth to even the score at 8-8 to send the game into overtime.
Hartwick dominated the two overtime periods, scoring three goals in the first overtime and then one in the second to earn the 12-9 victory.
Adding to Bruno's offense with Claudia Ruiz (Sacramento, CA) with two goals, while Joanna Wohlmuth (Manhattan Beach, CA), Lauren Presant (Poway, CA), Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA) and Rita Bullwinkel (Portola Valley, CA) each added one.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. when they host Harvard at Wheaton College. Brown will honor its three seniors, Presant, Laing and Glick, prior to the match.
