Water Polo Sweeps CWPA Northern Division Awards
Providence, RI- After earning its second ECAC Championship with
a thrilling 10-9 victory against host Princeton University on
Sunday afternoon, Brown women’s water polo swept all three
weekly CWPA awards. Senior Sarah Glick (Bonita, CA) was named the
Player of the Week, Katharine Booher (Palo Alto, CA) received
Rookie of the Week honors and senior goalkeeper Stephanie Laing
(Ann Arbor, MI) earned the Defensive Player of the Week.
The 2010 ECAC Championship MVP, Glick scored nine goals, dished out
six assists and collected seven steals with six ejections drawn.
She registered two goals in both the No. 20-natinally ranked Bears
victories over Wagner College (W, 6-2) and Marist College (W, 9-5)
as Brown advanced to the ECAC Championship title game for the
second consecutive year.
In the title tilt, she scored a game-high five times to help the
Bears power past host and No. 17-ranked Princeton University for a
10-9 victory as Brown captured the program’s second
consecutive ECAC title. She now has 23 goals on the year as the
Bears stand at 8-1 on the year.
Laing was stellar on defense all weekend for the Bears as she
helped her team to back-to-back ECAC titles. Laing combined for 28
saves in the cage, which included eight in the title game against
Princeton. She picked up eight in the semi-final game vs. Marist
and had a weekend-high of 12 against Wagner.
Booher grabbed seven steals and tallied the goal to tie the score
at 9-9- in Brown’s eventual 10-9 victory in the ECAC
Championship game. Trailing host and No. 17-nationally ranked
Princeton 9-8 with the clock ticking down, Booher tallied the
equalizer to set up a score by teammate Lauren Presant (Poway, CA)
