Princeton, NJ- Despite senior Lauren Presant's eight goals, five of which came during the fourth quarter, the Brown women's water polo team (5-1) suffered its first loss of the season in a 13-11 deficit to Princeton on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers darted out to a 3-0 first quarter lead with the help of two short-handed goals, and was able to maintain it throughout the game. Princeton and Brown each netted four goals in the second quarter as the Tigers headed into halftime with a 7-4 edge.
The Bears battled back, but the Tigers were just too tough and never let Bruno get closer than the final 13-11. Princeton outscored Brown 4-2 in the third quarter but the Bears were able to outscore the Tigers 5-2 in the fourth but it just wasn't enough.
Presant gave a valiant effort with eight goals to lead the offense today, as Sarah Glick, Rita Bullwinkel and Katherine Stanton each netted one. Leading the defensive was senior Stephanie Laing, who picked up seven saves in the cage for the Bears.
The Bears will be back at Princeton this weekend when it competes at the ECAC Championships. The Bears are scheduled to take on Wagner on Feb. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
