Providence, RI - Senior libero and captain Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) had 29 digs in three games, as the Brown volleyball team (7-15, 5-7 Ivy) fell to Princeton (20-3, 12-0 Ivy), 32-30, 30-21, 30-25. Lapinski's average of 9.67 digs per game ranks fourth all-time in a match in Brown history.
Not intimidated by the Tigers' 18-match winning streak, the Bears stood toe-to-toe with their opponents in the first game, holding a lead of one to two points for much of the game and extending it to four later on. However, with Brown up 27-23, Princeton reeled off five straight kills to go up 28-27 and held on to take a 30-32 win. The next two games were close to 10-10 and 9-9, respectively, but Princeton pulled away in the middle part of the games to sweep the match.
Freshman Megan Toman (Newport Beach, CA) led the Bears with 16 kills, with freshman Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) adding 12 to go with three blocks, one a solo. Senior Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) and junior Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) both had 13 digs, with Meyers adding 43 assists and three block assists.
On Saturday, the Bears will honor seniors Lapinski, Lipman, Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL), and Lizzie Laundy (Evanston, IL) after their final weekend contest, as the team takes on Penn at 4 p.m.
