Providence, RI - - In a game three battle Brown (9-12, 6-4) and Penn (8-13, 5-5) exchanged game points three times, before the Bears recorded the win on a block by senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) and junior Jessica Kondrick (San Diego, CA), giving Brown a 37-35 game three victory. The Bears jumped out to a two game lead defeating the Quakers 30-19 and 30-22 in the first two games. With a match high 15 kills, Gibbs moved into fifth place All-Time for kills in a career, recording 1,028 kills in her four year career at Brown.
In an all out offensive effort for Bruno, senior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) dished out 52 assists, giving three Brown hitters double digit kills on the evening. Behind Gibbs' 15 kills, junior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) finished the match with 14 kills, while classmate Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) posted 13 kills in the win.
Defensively, sophomore Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) was all over the floor for Brown racking up 26 digs while, sophomore Rachel Lipman (San Diego, CA) finished the three game match with 13. Both Tulac and Martin recorded 12 digs defensively for the Bears, giving them a double-double on the evening. Sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) led the Bears at the net, blocking four.
The Bears will return to action Saturday, November 5, when they take on Princeton in a 4:00 PM, Ivy League match-up. Following tomorrow's match the Bears will honor seniors Lauren Gibbs and Leigh Martin.
