The volleyball (7-10, 4-2) team recorded its second straight victory defeating Dartmouth (4-13, 1-6), 3-1, in Hanover, NH. Games one and two saw the Bears handle the Big Green fairly easily with a solid offensive and defensive effort. After losing game three the Bears got back on track, in game four as they moved out in front for good and never looked back.
This evening's offensive effort was lead by junior right side Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) who registered 16 kills on .343 hitting percentage while, sophomore Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) added 13 kills for the Bears. Freshman middle blocker Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) posted a match high .455 hitting percentage with 12 kills and three blocks while classmate, Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) contributed ten kills to this evening's victory. Junior setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) spread out her 49 assists evenly having four hitters in double digit figures. Baldwin and Lapinski also tallied ten and 16 digs, to give them both double-doubles on the night.
The ever-present defense of senior libero Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY), was on display again, as she tallied 35 digs. Kung's performance moves her past former teammate Kim Highlund '04, for third place in all-time career digs with 1204. Elvina only needs two more digs to have the third best single season total ever, and 10 to move to second place.
Brown looks to continue its winning streak when they travel to Harvard tomorrow, October 23, for a 4:00 Ivy League match.
