Bears Edged in Three Close Ones by Dartmouth
Oct. 14, 2006
Dartmouth, NH - Seeing that a volleyball match was decided in three games would typically indicate a lopsided contest, but that assumption could not be more wrong when applied to the Brown volleyball team (5-12, 1-4) in its tilt with Dartmouth Friday night. The Bears lost three excruciatingly close games, 30-28, 30-27, 34-32, all of which were tied at 26-26 or later.
In the end, Bruno just could not get the necessary points at the end of the games to pick up a win. Each game featured several lead changes and points traded. The first game was tied at 28 before the Big Green got the final two points. The second game was tied at 26 when the hosts scored four of the final five points. Of course, the third game was also not decided until the final two points, as it went to extra points.
Senior co-captain Shawn-Elyse Tulac (Claremont, CA) led all players with 16 kills. Sophomore Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) and senior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX) had 12 kills apiece, also adding 10 and eight digs, respectively. Match highs were also recorded by senior libero Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL), with 20 digs, sophomore Natalie Meyers (Huntington Beach, CA), with 41 assists, and junior Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL), with four blocks, two of which were solo.
Brown will return to action Saturday at Harvard. First service is at 4 p.m.
