Brown Volleyball is in the middle of a three weekend road odessy to start the Ivy League season. Friday night they visited the Tigers of Princeton, always a tough away match. Despite an improved performance in many areas, the Bears were unable to pull out the win, falling 3-1 on scores of 25-30, 18-30, 30-28, and 23-30.
Sophomore setter Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) distributed the ball very evenly, dishing out 51 assists, and having five hitters with 10 or more kills. Martin also kicked in 13 digs for her first double-double of the year. Fellow sophomore Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) spearheaded a nice Bear performance at the net with 13 kills and five blocks.
Freshman middle hitter Liz Cvitan (Malibu, CA) lead the team with six blocks, and was right behind Gibbs with 12 kills. Cvitan's classmate, Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX), contributed 11 kills on .474 hitting, and had five blocks. Sophomore Karalyn Kuchenbecker (Los Angeles, CA) had another double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs, adding four aces and three blocks. Senior Kim Highlund's (Newark, CA) 19 digs lead the team. Highlund has now moved past Kathryn Rice ('96-'99) for fifth on the all-time career digs list. She needs just 32 more digs to reach the 1000 mark.
Brown faces Penn at the Palestra on Saturday at 4:00.
