Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker to Boston College, 3-2

Providence, RI - The Brown volleyball team (1-5) lost a heartbreaker to Boston College, 3-2, in the opening game for both teams in the Brown Invitational. Individual games scores were 22-30, 32-30, 31-29, 30-23, 15-9. Brown came out strong in the match posting a .405 hitting percentage as a team in the first game, but could not put the Eagles away.
Offensively junior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) lead the Bears with five aces and directed the offense with 54 assists. Classmate Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) had 16 kills and added eight defensive blocks for Brown. Sophomore Liz Cvitan (Malibu, CA) started out strong in the first game recording four kills and earning a .667 hitting percentage and would finish the match with 13 kills. Freshmen Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) tacked on 11 kills and recorded 22 digs for a double-double this evening.
Defensively, freshman Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) led the Bears with nine blocks. Senior Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) had a match-high 28 digs. Martin recorded her second double-double of the season, posting 11 digs.
In the opening match of the Brown Invitational St. Peter's College (1-8) was defeated by the University of Albany (8-5), 3-0. Game scores were 30-32, 27-30, 27-30.
Tomorrow's matches will begin at 10:00 when Albany takes on Boston College. The1:00 match features Brown and St. Peter's. Boston College will face St. Peter's at 4:00, before the Bears face Albany in the final match at 7:00.
