Volleyball Falls to Rhode Island, 3-1, In Home Opener

Providence, RI - The volleyball team (1-6) fell in disappointing fashion to instate rival, the University of Rhode Island, 3-1, this evening at the Pizzitola Center in front of a stellar crowd. Brown bounced back from a 14-30 and 25-30 loss to win the third game 30-13, but was over-powered in the fourth game, losing 26-30, and giving the match to Rhode Island.

Junior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) stood strong in the second game getting three points in a row, blocking two and adding a kill for the Bears. Gibbs finished the match with 12 kills and six blocks, while junior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) posted 34 assists and two aces in tonight's loss.

Freshman Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) finished the match with four blocks and six kills, and senior libero Elvina Kung (Dix Hills, NY) had a match high 24 digs for Brown.

The Bears will return to action this weekend when they will host the Brown Invitational featuring St. Peter's, Albany and Boston College. Brown's first match of the weekend, will be Friday, September 24, at 7:00, when they take on Boston College.
