San Diego, CA - The Brown volleyball team (1-6) completed its difficult slate at the USD Invitational with a three-game loss to 11th-ranked Wisconsin (8-2), 30-12, 30-26, 32-19. It was a respectable showing by the Bears, who even led the second game of the match past 20 points. Head Coach Diane Short used the game to get most of the team some court time against one of the top squads in the country, getting 15 Bears into the game, some for the first time this season.
Junior Katie Lapinski (Niles, IL) once again paced the Bears with 16 digs, a match high. She and senior Rikki Baldwin (Magnolia, TX), who had seven kills, were named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Natalie Meyers (Huntington, CA) had 20 assists, while classmate Lyndse Yess (Eugene, OR) led the team with eight kills.
With valuable experience gained from this West Coast trip, the Bears will return home for their next match, an in-state tilt against the University of Rhode Island at the Pizzitola Center (3-7 entering a night game on Saturday) on Tuesday.
