Washington, D.C. - Sophomore middle back Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palo Verdes, CA) and the Brown volleyball team (2-0) continued their strong start this afternoon in a 3-0 win over Morgan State (1-10) at the Georgetown Invitational. Vaughan led the Bears with seven kills and a .538 hitting percentage in a dominant outing for Bruno.
Although the first game was a close one, with Brown holding on for a competitive 25-21 victory, Morgan State unraveled as the match went on. The Bears fell behind 5-0 in the opening frame before coming back to first even the score at ten and then go on to win. In the second game Morgan State kept it close initially, closing the gap to 7-5, but Brown then went on an 18-2 run to close the game. The third game unfolded in similar fashion, with Bruno holding on for an easy win. For the match Morgan State had 30 errors compared to only seven for Brown.
Freshman Annika Gliottone (Warwick, R.I.) had a strong game on her first day of collegiate play, leading the team with 12 digs and two service aces, and tying for second on the team with three assists. Senior captain Natalie Meyers (Seal Beach, CA) again led the team in assists, with 13, and chipped in four defensive digs.
The Bears will continue competition on Saturday against St. Francis (NY) at 3:00 p.m. and then play host Georgetown at 7:30 p.m.
