Storrs, CT - Senior Leigh Martin (Freelton, ONT) had an all-around performance recording seven kills for a match-high .636 hitting percentage, also dishing out 31 assists, three aces and eight digs, in the 3-0 (30-23, 32-30, 30-26) to Seton Hall in the Bears (0-4) final match of the UConn Tournament.
Behind Martin, the Bears offense had their best performance of the weekend hitting a weekend high .271 team hitting percentage. Getting in on the action was senior Shawn Tulac (Claremont, CA) and sophomore Julie Mandolini-Trummel (Crystal Lake, IL) posting nine kills while senior Lauren Gibbs (Los Angeles, CA) recorded seven.
Defensively sophomore Lizzie Laundy (Evanston,IL) had a team high 14 digs while Tulac showed her defensive ability tallying 13 digs. Freshman Natalie Meyers (Huntington, CA) also got into the mix recording nine digs.
With 38 kills on the weekend, Gibbs earned a spot on the All-Tournament team which was announced at the conclusion of the tournament this evening.
The Bears will travel to Evanston, IL to take part in the Northwestern Tournament next weekend September 16-17. Brown will open up the tournament on Friday, September 16 taking on Kentucky at 5:00 PM.
