PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior libero Melissa Cairo recorded her 15th double-figure dig match of the season, but Brown University volleyball fell at Princeton University, 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-17), on Saturday evening inside Dillon Gymnasium.
The Bears (6-15, 1-9 Ivy) extended set one to the maximum number of points in regulation before the Tigers (14-6, 7-3 Ivy) took the win in the opening frame and went on to win in straight sets behind a .390 team hitting percentage.
Cairo (Hillsborough, Calif.) posted a team-high 11 digs while freshman Bailie Salk (Tiburon, Calif.) totaled 10 assists, five digs, and a match-high three service aces.
Junior Sabrina Stillwell (Laguna Beach, Calif.) paced Brown with seven kills while sophomore Makena Ehlert (Orange County, Calif.) compiled six kills and seven digs. Sophomore Jacqueline Jacobs (Atlanta, Ga.) tied for the match high with four blocks.
In set one, Brown led 6-3 before the Tigers took leads of 11-7 and 16-11. The Bears tied the set at 18-18, 20-20, and 22-22 prior to Princeton emerging with a 25-23 set win. Ehlert landed four kills in the period.
Princeton opened set two with a 10-3 edge and maintained at least a five-point advantage the rest of the way in a 25-14 set win. The hosts hit .483 as a team in the stanza.
The Tigers gained a 14-8 lead midway through set three and kept a minimum of a four-point lead for the duration.
For Princeton, Alexa Underwood tallied a match-high 15 kills on .481 hitting, Jessie Harris led the match with 35 assists, and Devon Peterkin made a match-best 14 digs. The Tigers swept the season series after defeating Brown 3-0 on Sept. 29 in Providence.
Next, Brown hosts its final home matches of the season against Dartmouth (Nov. 3, 7:00 p.m.) and Harvard (Nov. 4, 5:00 p.m., Senior Day).
