PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following the team's most successful Ivy League showing since 2005, Head Coach Diane Short has announced the Brown volleyball schedule for the upcoming 2014 season.
Brown's 26-match slate features three non-conference tournaments, a 14-match Ivy League schedule and 12 home contests.
The Bears open the season in San Diego, Calif., for three matches in the Aztec Invitational. Brown starts against the Toreros of the University of San Deigo and the Aztecs of San Diego State on Sep. 5. The next day, the Bears play a pair of neutral site contests against Northwestern and Cal State Fullerton.
Brown will settle in for a four-match homestand when they battle crosstown rival Providence on Sep. 10 before hosting the Brown Invitational on Sep. 12-13. The Bears look to avenge last year's three-set loss to the Friars and will face UMass Lowell, Liberty and Fairfield in tournament action at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Three non-league tilts at New Hampshire pit Brown against the Wildcats, New Mexico State and Rhode Island at the Holly Young Invitational on Sep. 19-20. The Aggies of New Mexico State won the 2013 Western Atlantic Conference title and earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Seven-time Ivy League champion Yale heads to College Hill on Sep. 26 for Brown's Ancient Eight opener followed by a non-conference home match against Holy Cross on Sep. 30. The Bears then dive headlong into 13 straight Ivy League showdowns and four straight road contests, starting at Dartmouth (Oct. 3) and Harvard (Oct. 4).
Brown heads to Princeton and Penn on Oct. 10-11 and host Columbia and Cornell on Oct. 17-18. The Bears travel for a rematch against the Bulldogs on Oct. 24, followed by home events versus the Crimson (Oct. 31) and the Big Green (Nov. 1).
A New York swing sends the Bears to Cornell (Nov. 7) and Columbia (Nov. 8) before closing the regular season at home against the Quakers and the Tigers on Nov. 14-15.
