Hanover, N.H. – The Brown volleyball team got back on the winning track on Saturday night in New Hampshire, downing Dartmouth in straight sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-21). The Bears were lead by the attacking duo of sophomore Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.) and senior Katrina Post (Pasadena, Calif.) who each finished with double-digit kills.
Brown picks up its first Ivy win of the season and improves to 5-10 on the season. Dartmouth falls to 2-13 in 2012.
The Bears held the Big Green to just 18 points in the first set before winning a hotly-contested second game, closing out the game 26-24. Bruno went on to take the third set by four points to secure its first conference victory.
Not only did Brown have the only two players with double digit kills in the match but the defense was highlighted by sophomore libero Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.) who registered a season-high 30 digs as the Bears out-dug the Big Green 79-66.
Brown was strong throughout the match setting up its offensive attacks as its two setters each tallied 16 –plus assists. Junior Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had 17, while rookie Rachele Killian (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had 16. Both setters also posted seven-plus digs.
Despite being out-blocked in the match, Brown was able to find holes in the Dartmouth defense and hit .220 in the match while tallying 44 kills to the Big Green's 35.
Brown returns to the court next weekend when they face Penn and Princeton in an Ivy League weekend at the Pizzatola Sports Center.
